Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said the country is in charge of sensitive local data, including personal finances and health, and avoids access to such information in “undemocratic countries like China”.
Reuters quoted Matteo Salvini as a comment when answering questions about US action against Huawei.
He said to La7 television: “China is not a democratic country and has certain imperialism and control spirit.” He added that the Chinese government has a certain influence on state-owned enterprises. Matteo Salvini said that sensitive Italian data must be left in the hands of Italians.
As for the “One Belt, One Road” memorandum of understanding signed between Italy and China, he pointed out that international allies and security are separate from those supporting domestic companies.
