Trudeau disclosed the situation to the media in Montreal, but did not say how he learned. Reuters quoted a Canadian government source as saying that the Canadian side was informed by US officials.
Canada has been calling on its allies to pressure Beijing, the former diplomat Michael Kovrig and businessman Spa Spavor, to be detained by China, but China on Wednesday (3rd) said the move was “too naive.” However, Trudeau believes that the measures are effective, pointing to the pressure of the country not only for the two Canadian citizens who are arbitrarily detained by China, but also to reflect the impact of the incident on the rule of law and the rule-based international order.
