Trump Sparks Outrage by Suggesting Revoking Rosie O’Donnell’s Citizenship

1 min read

President Donald Trump stirred controversy once again after stating he is “seriously considering” revoking actress and comedian Rosie O’Donnell’s U.S. citizenship. The remark, made during a campaign-style event, appeared to be delivered partly in jest, but it quickly drew backlash and raised constitutional questions.

“Some people don’t deserve to be called Americans,” Trump said, referencing O’Donnell, a long-time critic and frequent target of his public attacks. “We’re looking into it — believe me.”

Legal experts were quick to dismiss the possibility, pointing out that U.S. citizenship cannot be revoked on the basis of political views or personal dislike. “This is pure political theater,” said a constitutional law professor. “The President has no authority to strip someone of citizenship unless it involves serious legal grounds like fraud in the naturalization process — and Rosie O’Donnell was born in the U.S.”

O’Donnell responded on social media, calling Trump’s comments “unhinged” and “pathetic,” adding that she remains committed to speaking out against what she described as his “dangerous rhetoric.”

While the statement is unlikely to result in any real legal action, it underscores Trump’s ongoing strategy of using provocative remarks to energize his base — and attack his critics.
