Apple introduced HomeView on Tuesday, a new smart display built around its Apple Intelligence-powered Siri assistant, marking the company’s clearest bid yet for a permanent place on kitchen counters and living room shelves alongside smart speakers from Amazon and Google.
The device centers on a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, available in a tabletop version with a domed aluminum speaker base joined by a stainless steel tilt hinge, or a wall-mounted model with the same screen and feature set. The tabletop version comes in silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray finishes with a color-matched USB-C cable, while the wall-mounted version is offered in space gray and silver.
HomeView is priced at $299 in the US, with pre-orders opening the same day as the announcement and availability beginning November 13. The device is also available for pre-order in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the UK.
Apple is positioning HomeView as a household command center, capable of controlling connected lights, locks, thermostats and cameras, handling FaceTime video calls, playing music and video, and functioning as a digital picture frame when idle.
A notable feature lets HomeView recognize up to six household members and tailor its interface to whoever is standing in front of it, surfacing that person's own Messages, Calendar, Reminders, FaceTime, Find My, apps and widgets without exposing their personal information to other people in the household.
The launch comes as Apple works to position Siri's AI-driven capabilities more centrally across its product lineup, and HomeView effectively doubles as a showcase device for that effort, betting that a dedicated screen in shared spaces can make Apple Intelligence feel more present in users' daily routines than it currently does through iPhones and HomePods alone.
