South Korea’s Blue House spokesman Gao Yiting said at a press conference on Monday that US President Donald Trump will pay a two-day official visit to South Korea on Saturday (29th), and on Sunday (30th) with South Korea. The president’s text is in talks.
She said that Trump arrived in South Korea on Saturday afternoon and talked with Wen Zai in Qingwatai on Sunday. The two sides will conduct in-depth discussions on consolidating the ROK-US alliance, working together to promote the complete denuclearization of the peninsula and building a permanent peace mechanism. Trump will return to Washington from the U.S. Air Force Base in the afternoon on Sunday.
This is the eighth time that Han and Mei’s leaders have held talks after Wen’s appointment as president. It is also the 80th day after the two leaders met in Washington in April. Trump visited South Korea in November 2017, this is his second visit to South Korea.
Han Mei is still coordinating the specific schedule of Trump’s visit to Korea, and will announce it after finalization.
South Korea intends to push the US and the DPRK to reopen dialogue and the action is quite positive. The South Korean Unification Ministry reiterated on Monday that it hopes to hold the “French Association” before the G20 summit and the “Winter Club” at the end of the month. The department believes that this approach is preferable.
Li Xiangqi, spokesman of the Ministry of Unification, said in response to a reporter’s question on the same day that the government is working hard to promote the dialogue between the ROK, the DPRK and the DPRK as soon as possible and make the above statement. Given that the G20 summit is about to be held, it is more urgent to hold the summit meeting between the ROK and the DPRK before the ROK summit.
