Russia launched a wave of drones and missiles across Ukraine overnight, killing at least one person in the capital, Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said Monday.
Air defenses intercepted the majority of the incoming threats, but debris from a downed missile struck a residential area in Kyiv, killing one and injuring several others, according to local authorities. The victim was reportedly a 25-year-old woman.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russian forces fired more than 30 Shahed drones and several cruise missiles targeting key infrastructure and urban centers. Explosions were reported in multiple regions, including Odesa and Dnipro, with damage to civilian buildings and power facilities.
“These attacks are another attempt to spread terror and destabilize our country,” said Serhii Popko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.
The assault comes as Ukraine continues to appeal for more air defense systems from Western allies amid ongoing Russian offensives along the front lines.
