British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that unless the EU leaders are willing to remove the bottom-up plan from the Brexit agreement, they will not accept the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron.
A Prime Minister spokesman said that Johnson has indicated that he hopes to reach an agreement, but unless the EU agrees to reopen the negotiations, face-to-face talks are not interesting.
Johnson has talked with Merkel and Mark Long, but has no intention of accepting the other party’s invitation to meet. For Johnson’s choice to contact Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar at a later date, local officials saw it as Johnson had no intention of holding serious negotiations.
When Johnson visited Scotland on July 29, he said that he still hopes to reach an agreement with the European Union and has spoken to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Merkel, and will contact Varadka on the same day. He pointed out that the EU did not intend to change its position, but described the call positive.
