DUBAI, Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the African Emirati Business Summit (AEBS) Grand Prize for State Leadership, Economic Transformation and Development, summit organizers announced ahead of the forum’s eighth edition in Dubai.
Held under the banner “Africa – Emirates: Opportunities Without Borders,” the summit introduces the high-level award to spotlight state-led initiatives that drive sustainable industrialization, cross-border investment, and structural economic reform across the continent.
According to AEBS leadership, the decision to honor President Oligui Nguema recognizes Gabon’s aggressive policy push toward economic diversification, critical infrastructure modernization, and domestic resource value addition. The award aligns with Libreville’s National Growth and Development Plan (2026–2030), which targets key bottlenecks in utility access, healthcare, education, human capital, and youth employment.
The recognition comes amid visible acceleration across Gabon’s major industrial and logistics undertakings:
- Maritime Infrastructure: Ground was broken on the strategic Kobe-Kobe deep-water port project, backed by a public-private partnership model designed to expand central African trade corridors.
- Domestic Processing: Operations commenced at the Aciéries du Gabon steelworks in Port-Gentil, advancing the national mandate to process mineral resources locally rather than exporting raw ores.
- Integrated Mining Assets: State oversight continues over the multi-billion-dollar Bélinga iron ore corridor, integrating extraction sites with dedicated rail routes, port links, and hydropower capacity.
Hosting the presentation in Dubai provides a strategic platform connecting African leadership directly with sovereign wealth funds, private equity firms, and commercial partners across the Middle East and wider global markets. Beyond its traditional B2B and B2G matchmaking tracks, AEBS officials noted that the creation of the Grand Prize establishes a global stage to celebrate leadership contributing to Africa’s evolving economic architecture.
The official conferral ceremony is scheduled as a headline event during the summit proceedings in Dubai.
