The China-US negotiations reached a first-phase trade agreement. US Treasury Secretary Mnuchin said that the working groups of the two countries are negotiating the text of the agreement and said that they are ready to travel to Beijing again to participate in negotiations and coordination.
Steven Mnuchin said that there is still work to be done before the formal signing of the agreement. At present, no invitation has been received from the Chinese side, but it is said that it is ready to visit China when necessary. Mnuchin expressed his belief that before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) held in November, he would take the lead in meeting with US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and National Deputy Prime Minister Liu He.
As for how to deal with the plan to impose tariffs on the remaining $156 billion in Chinese goods starting on December 15, Mnuchin said that there is no decision yet. Mnuchin said that he will focus on the first phase of the trade agreement.
