Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on November 6 that he had successfully captured the wife of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the late leader of the ISIS extremist organization in Syria.

Erdogan added that Turkey also captured relatives such as his sister and brother-in-law, but did not elaborate on the arrest. Fahrettin Altun, the director of the Turkish Presidential Office, described this as another example of the success of the anti-terrorist operation in Ankara.

A senior Turkish official said recently that the authorities captured Rasmiya Awad, the sister of Baghdadi in northern Syria, on November 4.

Awad, 65, was accompanied by five children when he was arrested. Her husband and a wife were also arrested and all adults were questioned. The senior Turkish official said that he hopes to get an intelligence “gold mine” from Baghdadi’s sister and get information on the internal organization of ISIS.
