Qualcomm was ruled by a US federal judge for monopolizing due to excessive patent licensing fees

Qualcomm, the US chip maker, was ruled by federal judges to violate antitrust laws, illegally suppressing competition in the mobile phone chip market, and using its dominant position to charge excessive patent licensing fees.

Qualcomm did not respond to the incident.

Qualcomm’s business includes wafer production and patent licensing, and the company will charge a patent license fee to companies that use its technology. Qualcomm reached a settlement agreement with Apple on the patent fee issue last month. The company will charge Apple at least 4.5 billion US dollars (about 35.1 billion Hong Kong dollars) in settlement funds, which is calculated separately from Apple’s patent license fee for using Qualcomm chips.
