US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Switzerland on Sunday (2nd). When he met with the local foreign minister, he asked his allies to recognize the security risks of trading with China.
On the Iran issue, he said that the United States is willing to communicate with Iran without preconditions, but stressed that the country should behave like a “normal country.”
Pompeo and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis discussed the issue of China and Iran on the same day. Pompeo said that the United States will try to discuss bilateral trade agreements with China and be optimistic about achieving good results. Cassis said that Switzerland is satisfied with the efforts made by China and the United States for potential trade agreements.
However, Pompeo also called on allies to beware of China on the same day, saying that it must recognize the security risks of dealing with China.
As for the Iranian issue, the Secretary of State stated that the Washington government is ready to talk to Iran without preconditions, but that Iran should behave like a normal nation. He said that the issue of US-Iranian relations is rooted in Iran’s Islamic regime over the past 40 years, not the sanctions imposed by the Washington government.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday (June 1) if the United States shows respect, Iran may be willing to hold talks, but Iran will not be forced to negotiate.
