Russia criticizes $61 billion American aid package, alleging it will ‘devastate’ Ukraine and exacerbate violence

Ukraine witnessed a temporary respite following the approval of a $61 billion foreign assistance package by the U.S. House of Representatives over the weekend. The new funding was swiftly condemned by Russia, which argues that it exacerbates global crises.

Despite persistent objections from staunch Republicans, House lawmakers greenlit the aid on Saturday. The bill is now slated for review by the Democratic-led Senate, expected to ratify it later this week before it reaches President Joe Biden for final approval.

The aid comes as a vital support for Ukraine, whose eastern forces have faced ammunition shortages, leading to the rationing of shells. Meanwhile, Russian advancements in the Donbas region have heightened Ukraine’s urgency for air defense systems, artillery, and ammunition to shift the tide of the conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to U.S. lawmakers, emphasizing that the House’s decision “will curb the war’s escalation, preserve countless lives, and bolster the strength of both our nations.” Zelenskyy urged the Senate to swiftly endorse the bill.

Russia vehemently condemned the U.S. $61 billion aid package for Ukraine, alleging that it will only intensify the ongoing violence in the conflict.
