US Ambassador to the Netherlands Pete Hoekstra said on Wednesday that if the Dutch government wants to guard against the Chinese government’s espionage, it should completely ban the use of Huawei’s equipment on 5G networks.
The Netherlands will begin the bidding process for the construction of 5G networks in the next few months. At this time, the United States has called on the Netherlands to ban Huawei equipment.
Huxtra is the former chairman of the US House Intelligence Committee. In 2018, he was appointed by the US President Donald Trump as the ambassador to the Netherlands. He said on Wednesday (6th) that the use of Huawei equipment in the new network would be ” A very bad idea, a very bad direction.” He also pointed out that even if someone said that technical advice could be put forward to protect the data, he thought that it was not the best practice.
The Netherlands has not yet expressed its position on Huawei’s controversy, but the local telecommunications company Royal KPN NV, which will play a leading role in the local 5G network, has said that it will exclude Huawei from the core part of the 5G network construction.
The United States has recently called on allies to ban Huawei 5G equipment and questioned the Beijing government’s espionage through Huawei. Huawei has repeatedly denied the US allegations and rebutted that the United States’ actions against Huawei are like bullying.
