Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the 23rd St. Petersburg International Economic Forum Plenary in St. Petersburg, Russia on Friday (7th). In his speech at the meeting, he said that China is willing to share the latest scientific research results such as 5G technology with other countries.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Russia is an important priority partner for China to carry out cooperation in various fields. The “One Belt, One Road” initiative is linked to the “Greater Eurasian Partnership” concept advocated by President Putin. The two initiatives can support each other, promote each other, and continue to promote regional economic integration and achieve common sustainable development.

Xi Jinping stressed that it is necessary to persist in building and sharing, and work together to create an open and diversified world economy. China will continue to expand its opening to the outside world, relax market access and create a fair and competitive market environment. China will promote the process of economic globalization, safeguard the multilateral trading system, and strive to solve the problem of imbalanced inequality in world economic development and create more opportunities for developing countries. He also mentioned that China is willing to share with the countries the latest scientific research results including 5G technology and jointly cultivate new core competitiveness.

Putin criticized the US economic self-interest and accused Washington of obstructing Russia’s construction of a natural gas pipeline connecting Europe. He also mentioned that countries that used to support free trade have now hanged on trade wars and sanctions and used non-market means to exclude competitors. He cited some examples of Western countries suppressing Huawei as the first scientific and technological war in the digital age.

Xi Jinping ended his visit to Russia after the same day and arrived in Beijing on the morning of Saturday (8th).
