Los Mambo Jambo
Kovačević’s journey as a musician began long before Bratia. He’s made a significant mark in the Barcelona music scene, particularly through his work with Los Mambo Jambo, a band that has become a fixture in Spain’s Latin and jazz music scene.
At the heart of the Los Mambo Jambo´s unmistakable sound – besides Kovačević – is the exceptional saxophonist Dani Nel·lo, whose virtuosity and unique style have become integral to the band’s identity. Nel·lo’s professional debut began with the iconic 80´s band Los Rebeldes – a pioneering rock’n’roll band in Barcelona. Joining the group at 17, he contributed to their distinctive sound during his 12-year tenure.

In addition to Los Mambo Jambo, Kovačević is co-founder of the Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra (BGKO) since 2012. This ensemble is renowned for its innovative fusion of Balkan, Klezmer, Romani, and Jazz Manouche music, drawing inspiration from diverse #cultures across Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean sea.

Barcelona Big Blues Band
The Barcelona Big Blues Band (BBBB), under the direction of double bassist Ivan Kovačević, has become a prominent force in Spain’s swing, jazz, and rhythm and blues circuits. Renowned for their dynamic performances that blend wild energy with sophisticated arrangements, the band draws inspiration from legendary figures like T-Bone Walker and Johnny Otis.
The BBBB has graced stages at highly successful venues such as Jamboree Jazz Club, further solidifying their reputation in the live music scene. They have also collaborated with renowned artists, including a notable performance with saxophonist Ray Gelato, interpreting his composition “I’ve Been Around” at the Sax-O-Rama 2024 event.
In August 2024, the BBBB celebrated their first anniversary with a special concert at Paral·lel 62 in Barcelona, joined by guests Wax & Boogie and Dani Nel·lo. This event highlighted the band’s dynamic range and their ability to blend traditional #blues with contemporary influences.
Kovačević ´s experience in these bands has allowed him to refine his #craft and learn the importance of both technical precision and emotional #expression in music.
These experiences have undoubtfully influenced his role in Bratia, where he channels his love for diverse musical traditions into every note the band plays.
The Future of Bratia
