Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has officially appointed aviation veteran Vivian Cheung as Chief Executive Officer, marking a historic milestone as the first internally-grown leader to take the helm of one of the world’s busiest airports.

Effective April 7, Cheung begins a three-year term following unanimous approval from the AAHK Board and endorsement from Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee. Her appointment follows a rigorous nine-month global search, concluding with a clear vote of confidence in her leadership and expertise.

Cheung has been acting CEO since June 2024, and prior to that, she served as Chief Operating Officer since 2022. Her deep-rooted experience in airport operations, technology, and management spans over three decades, all significantly shaping the growth and development of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

Fred Lam, Chairman of AAHK, praised Cheung’s achievements:
“Vivian’s appointment is a testament to her exceptional career and dedication to excellence. Her rise through the ranks is truly inspirational. She brings continuity, vision, and a deep understanding of our mission to transform HKIA into an Airport City that powers Hong Kong’s and the region’s economic growth.”

In her remarks, Cheung expressed both humility and optimism:
“It is a tremendous honor to lead one of the world’s leading airports. While the global aviation industry faces complex challenges, I am confident in our future. Together with the government, Board, AAHK team, and business partners, we will solidify HKIA’s position as a global leader and create an Airport City that redefines connectivity and innovation in Asia.”

Cheung’s distinguished career includes previous roles as Executive Director of Airport Operations and the founding President of the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy. Before joining AAHK in 1992, she held key positions in high-tech firms in New York and Silicon Valley.

Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from The State University of New York, an MBA from Southern Illinois University, and executive training from the Stanford Executive Program.

Beyond her corporate leadership, Cheung is deeply involved in public service and industry collaboration. She currently serves as Director of the Aviation Security Company Limited Board, Chairman of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai Airport Management Company Limited, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Hong Kong Airport Management Co., Ltd., and holds advisory roles on the Town Planning Board and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s Infrastructure Development Advisory Committee.

With Vivian Cheung at the helm, AAHK embarks on a pivotal chapter in shaping the next era of aviation excellence and regional development.
