Dutch Social Media Moguls Samuel and Ruben Onuha Arrested in Dubai on Suspicion of Drug Offenses

1 min read

Dubai authorities have detained Dutch influencer brothers Samuel (25) and Ruben (23) Onuha in connection with suspected drug-related offenses, multiple sources confirmed to De Telegraaf. While official details remain scarce, the arrest has sparked significant attention both in the Netherlands and within Dubai’s influencer circles.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed it is aware of the arrest but noted that no formal request for legal support has been made. The brothers’ family has declined to comment on the case, and it remains unclear who is representing them legally. Dubai’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is handling the case, has not responded to media inquiries—reportedly due to the Ramadan holiday period.

The Onuha brothers rose to online fame as self-proclaimed multimillionaires, often flaunting a lavish lifestyle on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. Samuel, in particular, gained notoriety after launching the online fashion label Icon Amsterdam in 2018, claiming to have sold hundreds of thousands of items and amassed a €30 million fortune.

Their content regularly featured luxury vehicles, designer watches, and private jet flights, accompanied by boasts of generating “millions per week” through e-commerce and dropshipping ventures. They also marketed paid masterclasses, promising students the key to financial independence through online business.

However, skepticism around the legitimacy of their claims has lingered. Financial disclosures for Icon Amsterdam from 2022 do not reflect the massive revenue figures the brothers publicized. The company has also faced criticism for poor customer service and lack of transparency.

The arrest has sent shockwaves through Dubai’s influencer scene, with speculation and commentary flooding social media. While the investigation continues, questions about the source of the brothers’ wealth—and the true nature of their business dealings—remain under intense scrutiny.
