A stunt performer scaled the 150-metre landmark during a one-night event celebrating International Spider-Man Day and the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Spider-Man appeared to step out of the cinema and onto the Dubai skyline on Saturday night, climbing the Dubai Frame before a crowd gathered below the landmark.
The live performance took place on 1 August 2026 as part of an event marking International Spider-Man Day and the UAE cinema release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Instead of holding a conventional premiere inside a theatre, the organisers turned one of Dubai’s most recognisable structures into the setting for a large-scale superhero stunt.
At approximately 8pm, a professional stunt performer wearing Spider-Man’s red-and-blue suit began making his way up the Dubai Frame. Spectators watched from the surrounding area as the performer climbed the structure, stopped at different points above the ground and recreated some of the character’s familiar poses.
The Dubai Frame was illuminated in red and blue for the occasion, making the performer visible against the structure and the night sky. Gulf News reported that thousands of spectators watched the climb, with many raising their mobile phones and switching on their lights as Spider-Man moved higher.
The landmark rises approximately 150 metres above Zabeel Park and is around 95 metres wide. Its height and open central space created a dramatic background for the performance, with the surrounding Dubai skyline visible through and around the Frame.
A superhero climb above Zabeel Park
The climb was the main focus of the evening. At one point, Spider-Man stopped partway up the Frame, turned towards the crowd and appeared to shoot webs into the air. He later reached the upper section of the structure before descending as part of the choreographed performance.
The stunt was presented as a live appearance rather than a film projection or digitally created visual. From the spectators’ perspective, Spider-Man was physically moving across the Dubai landmark, bringing one of the character’s most recognisable abilities into a real urban setting.
Khaleej Times reported that the performer also abseiled from the upper part of the Dubai Frame, drawing cheers from families, fans and moviegoers watching from below.
The event had been announced in advance as a free public experience, although registration was required. The meeting point was near the Dubai Frame parking area, and the performance began at 8pm.
Footage shared after the event showed the performer suspended against the patterned exterior of the Frame. Other moments recreated the familiar upside-down Spider-Man pose, using the height and architecture of the building as part of the performance.
Drone formations appear inside the Dubai Frame
Once Spider-Man had climbed the landmark, attention shifted towards the sky and the open space framed by the structure.
A synchronised fleet of 350 drones created illuminated images connected to Spider-Man and Brand New Day. The aerial display was positioned so that several formations appeared within the centre of the Dubai Frame when viewed from the audience area.
The sequence included a large Spider-Man figure, imagery of the character moving through the sky and a formation showing him hanging upside down. The drones also displayed the Brand New Day title and created an animated encounter between Spider-Man and the Hulk.
Gulf News reported that the aerial sequence ended with a formation depicting Spider-Man delivering a flying kick towards the Hulk.
The positioning of the drones allowed the Frame to function as a physical border around the aerial images. Rather than presenting the drone display separately from the building, the choreography used the shape of the landmark as part of the composition.
Red and blue lighting continued across the exterior of the Frame while the formations appeared, visually connecting the landmark, the live performer and the drone animation.
A movie launch outside the cinema
The event was organised around the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which opened in UAE cinemas on 30 July. The film continues the story of Peter Parker following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Tom Holland returning in the lead role.
The Dubai Frame performance took place two days after the UAE cinema release and on International Spider-Man Day, observed annually on 1 August.
VOX Cinemas organised the public event, with Empire Entertainment involved in the film’s regional release and promotion. DroneX Show produced the 350-drone aerial display accompanying the live climb.
The combination of a high-altitude performance and a coordinated drone sequence moved the launch away from the usual red-carpet or cinema-based format. The landmark itself became the central part of the event, while the city’s skyline served as the background.
Photographs distributed by international news agencies showed the stunt performer climbing the patterned exterior of the Frame and drones forming a Spider-Man figure in the centre of the structure. The images placed the event among Dubai’s recent large-scale entertainment activations involving landmarks and public spaces.
Crowds record the moment
Much of the audience watched the performance through raised mobile phones, recording Spider-Man’s progress as he climbed higher. Videos of the stunt and the drone display began appearing online shortly after the event ended.
The most widely shared footage focused on the scale of the climb, showing the relatively small figure of Spider-Man against the 150-metre structure. Other videos captured the moment the drones formed a large superhero figure between the two sides of the Frame.
The strong public response reflected the familiarity of both elements at the centre of the event: Spider-Man as one of cinema’s most recognisable characters and the Dubai Frame as one of the city’s best-known landmarks.
Although the event was connected to a film release, its main attraction was the physical performance. For those watching from below, the defining image of the night was not a movie trailer or poster, but Spider-Man climbing high above Zabeel Park.
The event lasted for one evening, making the performance a temporary transformation of the landmark. By the end of the show, the drones had left the sky and the red-and-blue lighting had faded, but footage of Spider-Man’s climb continued to circulate online.
