Neus FloresI am very sad for the passing of Maxi, lead voice of the #iconic British band Faithless, just before #Christmas. Not only because his #music made me dance until climax, but also because he still had so much to give to the world, as an #artist.
I remember the first, and only, time that I saw Maxi on #stage. It was in Barcelona some years ago, during a summer music festival sponsored by the townhall. I couldn´t believe the #presence on stage this man had. He didn´t really need a big band to fill in the black background. He was only #honest with his own #being, and he projected that honesty to the audience, … just like that, as if it was easy to do.
I couldn´t stop listening to Insomnia, I can´t get no sleep in a #loop for a long time. It was as if it made me think of the #time we humans waste, and it gave me a punch to react and make the most out of my simple life, every single day.
So, reading the #official #statement on Faithless official Facebook page about his #passing on December 24th was apalling:
“We are heartbroken to say Maxi Jazz died last night.
He was a man who changed our lives in so many ways. He gave proper meaning and a message to our music. He was also a lovely human being with time for everyone and a wisdom that was both profound and accessible. It was an honour and, of course, a true pleasure to work with him. He was a brilliant lyricist, dj, Buddhist, a magnificent stage presence, car lover, endless talker, beautiful person, moral compass and genius.”
I focused profoundly in the last word #genius. I also think he was somewhat #beyond a normal being. He was his own being. He felt music go through his body and then he #catapulted that music over anyone who would listen to it with uncontrollable #intensity, like I did.
And it wasn´t only the #rhythm, but also the straight-from-the-heart #lyrics, and the #message sent to more than a #generation, what made of Maxi a true genius altogether.
I never had the chance to meet him personally, but just the fact that I could connect to his music gives me this kind of familiar connection to his soul, too. Or at least, I want to believe it does. And he also gave me #faith in life. And in me.
Who knows, maybe one day our souls dance to the #rhythm of the #cosmos and beyond. I am kind of #moved by thinking that his essence is now meeting the primal source of rhythm, and this is how I imagine him. For eternity.
God bless him and his family, his music will last forever.
