The Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, paid a glowing tribute to the Philippines’ 127th Independence Day by lighting up in the colors of the Filipino flag on the evening of June 12, leaving thousands of Filipinos in awe and pride.
At exactly 8:15 PM, the iconic Dubai landmark was illuminated in red, blue, white, and yellow, showcasing the Philippine national flag in full glory. The display lasted nearly a minute, accompanied by cheers, music, and a wave of phones capturing the breathtaking moment.
A Moment of National Pride Abroad
The spectacle was more than a light show—it was a symbol of recognition for the over 700,000 Filipinos living and working in the UAE, many of whom gathered in Downtown Dubai to witness the event.
“Seeing our flag on the Burj Khalifa makes me feel so proud to be Filipino,” said Alvin Reyes, a Dubai-based graphic designer. “Even thousands of miles away from home, we feel seen and celebrated.”
The tribute was part of the Philippine Independence Day celebrations organized by the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, in partnership with Emaar and local community organizations.
Celebrations Across Dubai
In addition to the Burj Khalifa lighting, various malls including BurJuman, Al Ghurair, and Dubai Festival City hosted Filipino cultural shows, food pop-ups, and live music throughout the day.
A special flag-raising ceremony also took place earlier at the consulate, where officials urged Filipinos to continue being ambassadors of Filipino excellence and unity abroad.
A Message of Unity
Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, Amb. Alfonso Ver, shared a message of gratitude:
“This symbolic gesture from the UAE reflects the deep friendship between our nations. On this day of freedom, we celebrate not just our history, but also the global Filipino spirit.”
