In response to the announcement by the Chief Executive Lin Zhengyue today (15th) that the “Fugitive Offenders Regulations” will be suspended, the MAC will respond on the same day that the Hong Kong Government’s suspension of amendments is a catastrophe. Taiwan will continue to follow the development. The MAC also called on Taiwan and Hong Kong to jointly safeguard the values of the rule of law and human rights.

The MAC pointed out that it is impossible for Taiwan to agree to the “Fugitive Offenders Ordinance” that violates human rights freedom and national sovereignty. The revision of the “Fugitive Offenders Ordinance” attempts to incorporate the issue of mutual legal assistance between Taiwan and Hong Kong into the “one China” framework. It not only violates human rights freedom but also violates national sovereignty. Taiwan firmly opposes this political scheme of wearing a judicial cloak.

The MAC said that in view of the Hong Kong women’s murder case, the Taiwan side has sincerely expressed sincerity, goodwill

and empathy. It has called on the Hong Kong Government to respond to Taiwan’s request for mutual legal assistance and jointly clarify jurisdiction and the merits. I believe it will help solve the case. Also give the victim’s family justice. “We have always adhered to the principle of equality, dignity, reciprocity and protection of human rights, and carried out various judicial cooperation with countries or jurisdictions around the world. For a long time, Taiwan has also actively considered establishing a mutual legal assistance mechanism between Taiwan and Hong Kong to achieve justice and fundamental solutions. problem.”

The MAC also pointed out that Hong Kong’s livelihood and prosperity and stability are the common aspirations of the Hong Kong people and the international community. The determination and courage of the Hong Kong people to show their freedom to guard against freedom is moving and admiring. The Taiwan side hopes that the Hong Kong Government will continue to observe the people’s sentiments, listen to the public opinion, cherish the values of the rule of law and freedom and human rights in Hong Kong, and lay a good foundation for the long-term development of Hong Kong. Taiwan and Hong Kong should also jointly guard the rule of law and human rights and create hopeful prospects for the young generation.
