Following reporting through Londoner Post concerning a criminal complaint filed in Portugal, official sources have confirmed that the Portuguese Judicial Police are conducting an investigation into the alleged conduct of Sheikh Abdulla Ali Abdulla Al Khalifa, a cousin of Bahrain’s Crown Prince, Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
According to information made public, the complaint relates to an alleged unpaid debt of €10,400 for the rental of a Maybach SUV used for four days in August 2025 in Portugal. The service provider reportedly initiated legal action after payment was not received, prompting the opening of a criminal file with Portuguese authorities.
Investigators have indicated that the inquiry extends beyond the initial incident. Official sources state that authorities are examining what they describe as a possible recurring modus operandi. According to information gathered during the investigation, after departing Portugal, Sheikh Abdulla allegedly attempted to obtain a similar luxury vehicle service in Madrid. Spanish service providers reportedly denied access to another Maybach after learning that payment for the previous service in Portugal had not been settled. This sequence of events reportedly raised concerns that the individual may have been relying on the Alkhalifa family name to establish credibility while avoiding advance payments.
Sources familiar with the case allege that once services are rendered, a pattern emerges in which explanations are offered for delayed payment, including claims that weekly transfers from an official office, family members, or associated accounts had not yet been received, or that there were difficulties accessing funds in Madrid. According to these sources, communication with service providers allegedly ceases entirely after repeated payment requests.
As a preventive measure, Portuguese authorities have issued informational notices through various media outlets, advising luxury service providers in Lisbon, Porto, and the Algarve to require advance deposits or credit card guarantees before providing services, particularly for high-value rentals.
The investigation is reportedly being conducted in coordination with the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as authorities seek to verify information relating to any official offices referenced, as well as other details considered relevant to the alleged offenses. Sources further claim that the service provider involved in the Portuguese case was subjected to direct threats and suffered financial loss amounting to €10,400.
Despite the ongoing investigation, Sheikh Abdulla remains active on social media. His public profiles reportedly continue to display images of private jets, yachts, and dining experiences at internationally renowned restaurants, projecting an image of an ultra-luxurious lifestyle.
