USAID, Amazon Web Services, and Elitery Empowering Digital Skills in Indonesia with TALENTA

  • TALENTA program became mandatory for over 6,000 students in Universitas Padjadjaran and over 3,000 students in Universitas Bengkulu. Students can earn credits for graduation requirements and obtain valuable badges/micro-credentials from AWS Educate that attract employers’ attention.
  • TALENTA has selected 32 startups to be part of the acceleration stage and deployed AWS cloud infrastructure in the companies. TALENTA has been providing a mentorship program to make sure qualified startups (15-20 startups) are ready to give business pitches on Demo Day to potential investors.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), a leading cloud services provider, and Elitery, an IT managed service provider has announced a significant initiative known as the TALENTA program, that designed to accelerate Indonesia’s transformation into a digital economy. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen Indonesia’s digital ecosystem by empowering the country to produce 60,000 skilled graduates from 20 universities and foster the growth of 100 digital startups.

Indonesia’s demand for a skilled digital workforce is projected to significantly increase from 2015 to 2030. The TALENTA program is collaborating with universities to strengthen Indonesia’s cloud computing technology workforce. In Year 1, Quarter 3, the program aimed to enroll 7,000 students, but it has already exceeded expectations with 13,392 students from seven universities, including Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM), Universitas Bengkulu (UNIB), Universitas Kuningan (UNIKU), UIN Ar-raniry, Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD), Universitas Teknologi Sumbawa (UTS), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA).

Furthermore, 32 startups accepted and joined the TALENTA startup acceleration program that include assessment, bootcamp, and business pitch preparation. During the program, the startups participate in plenary classes, panels, and workshops with mentors, facilitators, and speakers of varied technical expertise. They also have the opportunity to organize the venture competition, demo day, and community. AWS provides startups with AWS promotional subscriptions, technical support, and access to AWS programs that will enhance and deliver their solutions offering to solve public sector challenges. The program is open to startups that are developing innovative cloud-based solutions for the public sector in areas such as education, healthcare, public safety, and sustainability.

As the first step of the University Program, TALENTA participated in the Joint Tahap Persiapan Bersama (TPB) Opening Ceremony at Padjadjaran University (UNPAD) on Friday, September 12, 2023, in Jatinangor, Sumedang, West Java. During this event, TALENTA collaborated with UNPAD for the Opening TPB program launch. One of the goals of the TPB program is the Digital Literacy Movement, and TALENTA is actively supporting UNPAD in achieving these goals. This initiative is designed to introduce students to cloud computing technology, providing insights into technology utilization and potential career opportunities in the field of cloud computing.

This event was held at the Bale Sawala UNPAD building in a hybrid format, with 220 students attending in person and over 2,076 students participating via Zoom online platform and live streaming on UNPAD’s YouTube channel. During this event, TALENTA also conducted a training session titled “Introduction to Cloud 101” from AWS Educate. With the spirit of innovation and collaboration that serves as a guideline in the Opening Parade of TPB 2023, TALENTA remains committed to supporting the development of knowledge about cloud computing among UNPAD students.

On September 12, 2023, TALENTA organized an event at Bengkulu University. The event featured the “Introduction to Cloud 101” course and included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This hybrid event drew participation from 40 in person students, and an impressive 1,020 students who joined virtually via online platforms and Bengkulu University’s YouTube channel.

The event marked a significant milestone with the official signing of Understanding (MOU) for the TALENTA Program, establishing a strategic partnership between Bengkulu University (UNIB) and PT Data Sinergitama Jaya Tbk (Elitery). In addition to the MOU, an Implementation Agreement (IA) was also signed, cementing the commitment to the successful execution of the program. This event showcased the collaborative spirit and dedication to advancing cloud technology education at Bengkulu University.

Through the end of 2023, TALENTA will extend its presence to other universities around Indonesia. These initiatives underscore TALENTA’s commitment to collaborating with universities and students to strengthen Indonesia’s cloud computing technology workforce.
