Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), officially inaugurated the 21st edition of the Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference & Exhibition (DIHAD 2025). The event is being held over three days at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

DIHAD 2025 gathers international stakeholders including NGOs, UN agencies, governmental bodies, and private sector entities involved in aid, education, and infrastructure. The 2025 edition is held under the theme ‘Humanitarian Aid and Development in a Polarised World’, focusing on the global challenges facing crisis-affected populations.

Following the opening, Sheikha Latifa toured the exhibition alongside ambassadors, international organisation representatives, and delegation heads.

Dr. Abdulsalam AlMadani, PAM Roving Ambassador for the GCC Region and Chairman of the DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Organisation and its International Scientific Advisory Board (DISAB), noted the importance of fostering cross-sector partnerships to achieve scalable, sustainable humanitarian solutions. He emphasized the UAE’s ongoing support for international development efforts through initiatives aimed at disaster relief and improving living conditions in underserved communities.

Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Director General of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), delivered the opening speech. He highlighted Dubai’s role as a hub for humanitarian dialogue and the UAE’s historical commitment to charitable and development work, referencing the foundational contributions of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

During the ceremony, Kate Forbes, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), received the DIHAD International Personality Award for Humanitarian Relief 2025. The award, presented by DISAB, recognises leaders who have made significant contributions to humanitarian relief efforts worldwide.

Kate Forbes addressed the audience, marking the 60th anniversary of the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. She stressed the need for proactive efforts to uphold humanitarian values in an increasingly complex global environment.

Switzerland was announced as the Guest of Honour for DIHAD 2025. Ambassador Patricia Danzi, Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, underscored Switzerland’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian cooperation and innovation, and its readiness to share insights and collaborate with global partners.

Eng. Khaled Al Attar, Director General of the DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Organisation, introduced the DIHAD 2044 agenda. This long-term strategic framework focuses on five pillars: Sustainability, Empowerment, Partnership, Education, and Innovation. The agenda sets out to enhance DIHAD’s global reach and collaborative impact over the next two decades.

DIHAD 2025 is projected to attract over 18,000 participants from 160 countries, including more than 138 institutional buyers from UN agencies and humanitarian organisations. The exhibition hosts 1,063 active humanitarian organisations and 131 international speakers across 64 main sessions and 197 workshops.

In addition to its exhibition and conference, DIHAD 2025 features two key platforms: the DIHAD Government Hub, which supports policy development and humanitarian diplomacy, and the Partnership Hub, aimed at facilitating cooperation between NGOs, government bodies, and private sector suppliers.

The first day of DIHAD 2025 included several high-level meetings. A roundtable co-hosted by the DIHAD Sustainable Humanitarian Organisation and UAE Aid agency brought together senior officials and experts to explore evolving strategies in humanitarian aid and development. Another session, led by the Emirates Humanitarian Youth Council, focused on the role of Emirati youth in volunteerism and disaster response, under the theme ‘Emirati Youth and Humanitarian Volunteering: A Vital Role in Times of Crisis.’

DIHAD is organised annually by INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions, a member of INDEX Holding. It is supported by the UAE Aid Agency, United Nations entities, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, Dubai Humanitarian, and other charitable institutions. The 2025 edition is sponsored by partners including DP World Foundation, IACAD, Dubai Charity Association, Amazon Web Services, IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, and Al Khair Foundation.
